Style Guide: Summer 2012 Fashion Trends for Men

Guys, the heat is on and it’s time to play it cool… Make an impression this Summer with cool men’s casuals and smart formal wear. Let’s show you how to breathe new life into your wardrobe with some of the best international menswear trends!

Casually cool!

This summer keep it light, keep it cool. Opt for casual clothes in pleasant colours which convey a friendly ‘hello’ to your pals and reflect smooth sophistication when with the gals! Layering is not going out of fashion anytime soon, and you need those additions – light extra layers of apparel and accessories to complete your ensemble.

1. Burlap straw fedora

A fedora – a felt hat usually worn by men – is just perfect for the Summers in an airy burlap (a woven fabric mainly made from skin of the jute plant) make with a tonal hatband. This traditional teardrop crown hat is brought to you by UrbanOutfitters.

2. Black sunglasses

An eclectic mix of fashion and substance, this pair of IDEE sunglasses from Myntra provides the perfect protection from the summer glare and does so in great style!

3. Solid crewneck T-shirt

What’s summer without white cotton fabrics! This Gap crewneck tee sure does the trick! If T-shirts don’t quite make the cut, you could always beat the heat with all-time favourites such as polo T-shirts and flannel shirts.

4. Collared cotton shirt

Layer a plain or patterned collared shirt over a carefully chosen T-shirt. To complete your urban look, wear the shirt untucked and unbuttoned.

5. Shorts with rolled-up cuffs

Rolled/turned-up cuff shorts look much smarter than a pair of jeans this Summer! Check out cool shorts for men with rolled-up cuffs from Gap, or the Superdry denim shorts from ASOS that bring out elements of style with the paint splatter detailing on the leg.

6. Casual sneakers

Your sneakers can transform your looks and you should wear a pair that makes a statement! Another find from Myntra.com, the white Numero Uno casual shoes, with sturdy sole and bold stitching details look uber cool as they lend a finishing touch to your cool casual ensemble!

Funky formals

Summer’s here and now’s the time to add some cheerful fabrics, light layers and smart accessories to your attire as well. Electric colours are in, and you can go for striking ones such as a tangerine orange,  cyber yellow, deep red or neon green. Be it in the form of a bold jacket, lightweight blazer, tie, belt or even in your a pair of socks, add some colours to keep your look interesting! You can also add colors to your accessories – cap or hat, watch, bag, belt and shoes to keep it funky.

1. Cotton blazer

Add some cheer to your outer layers with jackets or cotton blazers in pleasant colours, like this one from ASOS. The cool green J.Lindeberg cotton jacket features a washed finish and is quite comfortable even in the heat. The flattering cuts and folded-up sleeves lend an uber cool touch to your breezy, Summer look.

2. Classic white shirt

You can’t go wrong with this crisp white United Colors of Benetton shirt from Myntra, ideal for the summer. Get comfortable in this cotton-linen blended shirt which features folded and buttoned cuffs.

3. Black trousers

Black trousers are a must-have for both men and women. Look for trousers in cotton blended fabrics. The pair of trousers featured here is from the Peter England Wedding collection, available at one of my favorite shopping sites – Myntra.com.

4. Oxford Shoes

Indulge in the luxury of pure leather in a pair of Enroute Oxfords from Myntra. An Oxford is basically laced leather formal shoes characterised by shoelace eyelet tabs that are stitched underneath the vamp (uppers). Add a touch of the classic with these fashionable formals and stay comfortable in the ample cushioning that these shoes provide.

5. Bowling bag

Throw in a little spark to complete your formal ensemble and get spotted holding a smart bag this Summer. Take a break from those backpacks and sling bags. Take a trendy bowling bag from Zara to work instead!

So there you have it – funky colours, edgy cuts, light cotton layers and smart accessories are all you need to stay cool and look hip through the Summer of 2012! Do keep an eye out for more trendy updates on our new posts. Subscribe to the Urban Syle Guide RSS feed here.

  1. Good stuff, I think that a lot of people lose sight of layering in the summer. I definitely agree that layering never goes out of style, and looks a lot better no matter what the season.
