And The Oscar Goes To….

Every year, the who’s who of Hollywood put on their best designer wear for the Academy Awards red carpet. There is a billowing of gowns, flashing of multiple camera lights, rushing of interviews, a hare-scramble amongst fans… And then the stars arrive and it is an absolute visual treat! There is a valuable fashion lesson in each of the numerous Oscars video clips and photos that we see. Sit up and make note as we bring you the best of what the Oscars had to offer…Its now time for ‘The Urban Style Guide Fashion Oscars!’

We Bow to You, Oh Princess

Yes, feast your eyes on the lovely lady! Emma Stone gave the adage ‘simplicity is beauty’ an all new meaning. Dressed in a Giambattista Valli Couture Spring 2012 gown, with a Louis Vuitton clutch and jewellery, she looked like she was surrounded by cherry blossoms! The pretty shoulder bow made the long gown all the more delectable. Way to go, we say! Lesson learnt: bright bursts of spring colors are all the rage this season.

An Angel in Our Midst

Gwyneth Paltrow has hardly ever gotten it wrong! She did not disappoint this time either, with her stunning Tom Ford column gown and accompanying cape in pristine white. Adding to the splendour were Jimmy Choo sandals and a diamond cuff by Anna Hu. Lesson learnt: white is the new black!

The Spanish Temptress

Nobody can tell that she is the mother of a kid! Penelope Cruz looked every bit the diva that she really is in this off-shoulder Armani Prive gown with ruched detailing. Lesson learnt: charcoal grey-blue is an absolute must have color this season!

The 100 Watt Smile

George Clooney is surely a lucky man! Is it the glow of a successful relationship or is it the fabulous gold-metallic gown from the Marchesa Fall 2012 collection? Your guess is as good as ours! The box clutch and Loraine Schwartz jewellery that Stacy Keibler carried managed to hold their own too. Lesson learnt: shimmer, shimmer and more shimmer!

 The Latina Seductress

Jennifer Lopez makes it look so easy, doesn’t she? The grand Zuhair Murad gown in nude and silver, along with crystal adornments, a plunging neckline and cut-out long sleeves only serves to accentuate her sensuous curves! Lesson learnt: nude shades are making a comeback.

Sheer Vintage Glory

Natalie Portman opted for a 1954 Christian Dior Haute Couture vintage red gown. Even the Charlotte Olympia clutch and gemstone jewellery are any woman’s dream accessories. A far cry from her ‘Black Swan’ character indeed, she stole many hearts! Lesson learnt: Classics will always be classics.

Black and White Goodness

Sandra Bullock cannot be left behind now, can she? The Hollywood star took the onlookers’ breath away with her black and white silk gown by Marchesa. The golden embellishments and draped cowl back were the best features of the dress. Lesson learnt: Add dramatic colors to shimmer and you have a winning look.

A Classic Combination

Jessica Chastain gave the time-tested formula of black and gold a new twist with her black and gold embroidered Alexander McQueen strapless gown. The Harry Winston jewellery only helped her glam it up even more! Lesson learnt: The half-up half-down hairdo with tousled hair is exceptional.

 For Your Eyes Only

Ooh la la! That is all we’ll say about Milla Jovovich…! 🙂 The Elie Saab Fall 2009 Couture collection fully embellished one-shoulder gown was an absolute scene scorcher! The Edie Parker clutch and Jacob & Co. jewellery stood out as well. Lesson learnt: Milla’s voluminous hair up-do and smoky eyes are a leading light for fashion trends of 2012.

Drop Dead Gorgeous

Would you want to take home the Oscar statuette or this lovely lady? Tough one, isn’t it? Maria Menounos sashayed down the Oscars red carpet in a mint green Maria Lucia Hohan gown. The heavy chandelier earrings are absolute winners too. Lesson learnt: shades of spring again, mint green is a cool hue.

The Goddess Divine

You didn’t really think we’d end without writing about Angelina Jolie and her famous thigh-high side slit gown, did you? An Atelier Versace velvet strapless gown, black peep-toes by Salvatore Ferragamo and impressive jewellery by Neil Lane, all came together perfectly for the sexy Hollywood A-lister. Lesson learnt: crimson lips and velvet, both of them are catching on big time!

Yes, thank you for the thunderous applause! Our job is to help you look good after all. 🙂 You can check out these links for more on accessories, shoes and women’s clothing. We’ll call it a wrap now with a collage that shows the other Oscars looks that got our vote. Some of the pictures here are also from Elton John’s Annual Oscars bash. Stay tuned for more on that!
